I got the first RSVP back, it was from Tiffany. I'm going to buy her a drink the next time I see her. This weekend was our Engaged Encounter, days of listening to 2 couples talk about 'life giving decisions'. I may get struck by lightening but there were some crazies in the program with us. Poor little naive Catholics who truly believe that to solve issues with your family not liking your spouse all you have to do is "show them the bible, they can't argue with that". Reality will hit them like a ton of bricks.
The crazy lady who interjected her wonderfully opinion on everything. "some kids are just BRATS and you have to beat em". The question was "what is the Catholic direction on disciplining your kids". She scared me and I felt sorry for her fiance. While we had this "rap session" he sat on the floor in front of her and she had her hands wrapped so tightly around his neck we were thinking she was going to strangle him!
I think obesity is a requirement for being an instructor for the program as well. (this is where I get struck by lightening) I felt pretty uncomfortable when they talked about intimacy and began to pray. I prayed that they quickly skimmed over the subject because I felt pretty icky listening to them talk about ear nibbling.
So, as we picked out our readings we choose the one the naive Catholics said will clarify any family discontent "man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'". At the wedding it will be our inside joke but also a very pertinent aspect of the marriage that we feel strongly about. We are a team, we are 'we'.
